The Bible was written over a 1500 year span (from 1400 B.C to A.D. 100), over 40 generations , over 40 authors from many walks of life (i.e. - kings, peasants, philosophers, fishermen, poets, statesmen, scholars), in different places (i.e. - wilderness, dungeon, palaces), at different times (i.e. - war, peace), in different moods (i.e. - heights of joy, depths of despair), on three continents (Asia, Africa, and Europe) in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) 

The Bible is the best-selling book of all time. How many Bibles, do you think are sold in one year? Any guesses? 150 million! And there are over 4 billion Bibles in print.

Interesting Bible Facts; Prophesies

-       Isaiah prophesied most about the coming of Jesus. Isaiah 52:13-53:12 lists more than 20 things about Jesus, all of which are true.

-       All other religious texts were written by men who claimed to be speaking for God. Only the Bible claims to be written by God, speaking to men.

-       Did you know that over 3000 times the Bible says, “thus saith the Lord.”

Interesting Bible Facts: General

-       The Star of Bethlehem was reported by Matthew, but at the same time Chinese astronomers recorded it, too. To the Chinese it was a bright, unknown star.

-       There have been more than 25,000 archaeological findings relating to people, places, and events in the Bible. And believe it or not, not one of them has contradicted anything in the Bible. That in and of itself is incredible proof of the Bible's trustworthiness. So if we can believe the historical and archaeological evidence for the Bible, why do you think it's hard for us to believe the spiritual part of the book?

Interesting Bible Facts: Plants & Animals

-          Almonds and pistachios are the only nuts mentioned in the Bible.

-          Salt is mentioned more than 30 times in the Bible.

-          A raven was the first animal out of the ark.

-          Interesting Bible Fact # The first book of the Bible tells of a serpent tempting Eve. The last book of the Bible calls Satan "that serpent of old, who is the Devil." (Genesis 3; Revelation 20:2).

-          Manna tasted like honey wafers. Exodus 16:31

Interesting Bible Facts: Grammar

-       A number of verses in the Bible (KJV) contain all but 1 letter of the alphabet: Ezra 7:21 contains all but the letter j; Joshua 7:24, 1 Kings 1:9, 1 Chronicles 12:40, 2 Chronicles 36:10, Ezekiel 28:13, Daniel 4:37, and Haggai 1:1 contain all but q; 2 Kings 16:15 and 1 Chronicles 4:10 contain all but z; and Galatians 1:14 contains all but k.

-       The longest word in the Bible is Mahershalalhashbaz which is 18 letters long and can be found in Isaiah 8:1 and 8:3. It means "quick to the plunder, swift to the spoil.

-       The longest intercontinental telegram ever sent was the text of the New International Version of the Bible, sent from Geneva, where it was translated, to New York for printing.

-       The shortest Old Testament book is Obadiah. It has 1 chapter with 21 verses.

-       The Bible contains about 773, 692 words!

Interesting Bible Facts: People

-   The most Travelled person in the Bible was Paul, the great theologian and missionary Acts 13:4, 15:36, 18:23

-   The most Frightened person in the Bible was Belshazzar, whose knees knocked ad the handwriting in the wall appeared Dan. 5:6

-   There was a man mentioned in the Bible who had 12 fingers and 12 toes 2 Sam. 21:20

-   Two men in the Bible never died. They were Enoch and Elijah. God brought them right up to heaven. Gen5:21-24 &  2 Kings 2:11.

Sunday school for adults – Introduction

I was brought up in a strictly religious environment. Every week I had go to Church – about three times, attend Sunday School, 'Kinderkrans' (Children's religious ring), CSV ('Christian Student Association'), Hostel 'stiltetyd' (quiet time) – seven times a week, and many other. So when I left school, I had had enough of religion. But … it prepared me for the day I met God and Jesus Christ some twenty years later.

Today I am astounded to hear that all these things have been banned from the school program or curricula, and I mostly find people who have never been to Church and who do not even have a Bible. I am writing this series for them, to solve their BKDS, which, as everybody knows, is their Bible Knowledge Deficit Syndrome.

This is such a beautiful and comforting song. Read it and think about it. The text was written and the tune was composed both by Ballington Booth from England in 1857. He was the son of William and Catherine Mumford Booth, founders of the Salvation Army.
