The Caveman Experience

1Sam 22:1-2  And David left there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And his brothers heard, and all his father's house, and they went down to him there.  And every man in distress, and every man who had a creditor, and every man bitter of soul, gathered themselves to him. And he became commander over them. And about four hundred men were with him.

In the passage above we discover that David went to hide in a cave when he was persecuted by Saul even though he defeated the bear, the lion and Goliath! He was destined to be the king of Israel and yet he hides in a cave. The people that gathered around him in the cave were not people of importance but people who were distressed, who were in debt and with bitterness pushed around by life and in a mess.

At that time God surrounded David with such people, because it was his training for reigning. God will sometimes take us to a cave surrounded by debt, doubt, bitterness and distress to make us realize where He called us to.

In your mess God can still bless.

Elijah had the same problem when God called him to Horeb in 1 Kings 19 after he killed the Baal prophets. Here God calls Him to the Holy Mountain into His presence (Horeb was the mountain where God spoke with Moses), yet he shy away from it and went into a cave.

1Kings 19:8-9 And he rose up and ate and drank, and went in the power of that food forty days and forty nights to the mount of God, Horeb. And he came there to the cave, and lodged there; and behold, the Word of Jehovah came to him, and said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah?

Maybe you shy away from His presence today because of your mess, failure or distress. You might be in a cave without vision and purpose and an expectation of hope. A cave is a dark and cold place with bats flying around in your hair. That is probably why God asked him what are you doing here Elijah you should be busy with my work and the purpose I have called you to. What are you doing in your cave. Sometimes we get so used to our caves and we get so comfortable with the situation that we can no longer see the bigger picture.

The solution:
When Elijah heard the fire and the wind he did not react on the manifestation of God's power but when he heard the still small voice he went out to stand at the mouth of the cave.

1Ki 19:12-13 And after the earthquake was a fire, but Jehovah was not in the fire; and after the fire came a still, small voice. And it happened when Elijah heard, he wrapped his face in his robe and went out and stood at the cave opening; and, behold, a voice came to him, and it said, What are you doing here, Elijah?

See the Word of the Lord over your life will bring you out! What did He speak to you, what promise do you carry inside of you? He will call you out and give you a purpose and He will restore what the enemy has cut off!

1Kings 19:15-16 And Jehovah said to him, Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and you shall go in and anoint Hazael as king over Syria; and you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel; and you shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat, of Abel-meholah, as prophet in your place.

Purpose and destiny was restored. Hallelujah. He is bringing you out today.

John 11:38-39 Then groaning again within Himself, Jesus came to the tomb. And it was a cave, and a stone was lying on it. Jesus said, Lift the stone. Martha, the sister of the one that had died, said to Him, Lord, he already smells, for it is the fourth day.

The tomb was a cave!

John 11:43-44 And saying these things, He cried out with a loud voice, Lazarus! Here! Outside! And the one who had died came out, the feet and the hands having been bound with sheets, and his face being bound with a cloth. Jesus said to them, Loosen him and allow him to go.

Like Lazarus His Word calls you out of your cave! He will give life to you and your situation. Ask Him today to take you out of your cave and into His wave! Which seemed impossible to make alive He made alive through His spoken Word. Let Him speak over everything that has died today. Your marriage, finances, relationships, your family... He will resurrect it and give it life!

Prayer:
Dear Father,
I come to you in the precious Name of Jesus and ask you to take my life to a whole new level with you. Grant me purpose and victory in all circumstances. In no longer want a cave existence but the life you choose for me. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
